A Ton of Anime News Arrived During the Holidays

The winter break present a plethora of activities far superior than scanning the headlines: opening presents, indulging in holiday treats, and employing deep breathing to not yelling at relatives. Hopefully you managed to enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy announcements surfaced during the holidays, and just in case you missed any, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Truly the most shocking revelation, the widely-criticized disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt more episodes. Season 3 will come back with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have called it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will remain at the helm. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which might be a good sign. However, the promotional image for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they must be trolling the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series showed it still retained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now the community is ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works

Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been going on for some time, and season 6 was another excellent entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will probably debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio famous for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Season Two

Shortly after the release of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a sequel. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has not been disclosed yet.
