Former Treasury Secretary Summers Leaves from ChatGPT Maker's Leadership
One-time economic leader Larry Summers is exiting the directorate at OpenAI, just days after a series of emails between him and deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein became public.
He commented in a release that he was "appreciative for the privilege to have contributed, optimistic about the prospects of the organization, and eagerly await tracking their development".
The former Harvard president, who formerly headed the Ivy League institution, declared on recently that he would be withdrawing from public roles due to his connections with Jeffrey Epstein.

The newly public emails revealed that the official exchanged messages with Epstein until the day before the financier's 2019 apprehension for suspected sex trafficking of young people.
In a separate statement, the AI firm stated it accepted his determination to step down.
"We value his numerous inputs and the perspective he brought to the directors," OpenAI stated.
Legislative Background
This news comes after both chambers of the legislative branch decided on this week to endorse a measure that would mandate the Department of Justice to release its documents on Jeffrey Epstein.
The bill will afterward proceed to the desk of US President Donald Trump for endorsement. The President has said he plans to endorse the bill, after modifying his view on the subject following pressure from his supporters.

A batch of financier-linked correspondence released by the House Oversight Committee last week referenced numerous well-known personalities in the billionaire's former circle, without suggesting any illegal behavior by those figures.
The communications revealed that the economist and Jeffrey Epstein regularly had dinners together, with the billionaire often trying to link the academic to influential international personalities.

After the messages were made available with the general audience, the former official expressed he assumed "full responsibility for my ill-advised decision to continue corresponding with Mr Epstein".
He continued that he hoped "to restore faith and repair relationships with the individuals nearest to me".
Professional History
The professor served in leadership roles under Democratic administrations; functioning as Treasury chief under the former president, and as head of the National Economic Council under President Obama.
He led the institution from the early 2000s and remains a faculty member there. When stating his departure from public commitments previously on this week, he said he would maintain his teaching commitments.
Further Repercussions
Following Summers' statement on earlier this week, the Washington think tank, a liberal policy institute in Washington where Summers was a senior fellow, announced that he was no longer connected with the group.
The former official became part of the board of the AI company, which creates ChatGPT, in the previous year - following a defeated move to oust its CEO Sam Altman.
