Has Pizza Peaked? Domino's CEO Exits After Move Into Chicken.

A chief executive of the UK's Domino's Pizza chain who suggested the United Kingdom might have hit maximum pizza demand while broadening the chain into fried chicken has been removed after tensions with its governing body.

Leadership Transition

The former CEO is departing after a brief tenure in leadership, and will be succeeded on an temporary basis by the organization's chief operating officer, Frampton, while Domino's searches for a new leader.

The outgoing executive, who worked for the company for over 20 years, had attempted to pivot Britain's biggest pizza food delivery firm towards poultry-based products, stating earlier this month there was not “massive growth” left in the UK's pizza market. He said poultry was the quickest rising menu item in the world.

Governance Tensions

Reports indicate that there was tension between Rennie and the board over his focus and direction, although the company's announcement said he was stepping down “as a joint decision”.

New Brand Launch

In the autumn, Domino's launched its Chick 'N' Dip product line – which the former chief referred to as a “bold new chapter” for the company – and is testing it in over 200 locations in the North West region and the province.

While the firm is still going to roll it out across its almost 1,400 stores in 2026 as intended, it regards chicken products as a supplement for its core pizza business.

Leadership Comment

Bull, the Domino's chair, commented: “Directors think that there are a range of possibilities to drive further growth and value creation in Domino's core business. We are prioritizing finding the right chief executive to oversee the disciplined execution of that growth strategy.”

Industry Difficulties

Recently, the pizza delivery giant, which has 13 million customers in the UK and Ireland, said sales dipped by 1.5 percent in the Q3. In the summer, it warned that the quick-service industry had “intensified” as it attributed economic uncertainty in the period before the budget and increasing labor expenses for disappointing revenue and a 15 percent decline in six-month income.

Rival chains are also struggling. Another major chain announced the closing of multiple locations a recently, after the company behind its UK venues faced financial collapse.

Health Efforts

Adapting to market shifts towards better nutrition, the company has rolled out reduced-calorie items, such as its light base range of pizzas below 400 kcals as well as meat-free and allergy-friendly options. A family-sized pepperoni has 2,311 kcals. A big margherita has 2,171, while a small has 909 calories.

Interim Management

The interim chief has been with the company since the recent past, and previously worked for the betting firm William Hill. It is thought that she does not want to assume the top job on a full-time basis.

Frampton stated: “The company has a number of current growth and performance initiatives that we will be dedicated to carrying out at speed.”

Frampton noted these comprised additional efforts on the organization's procurement system and new item creation, and its customer retention initiative.

Domino's is also in need of a full-time chief financial officer until 16 March, when Andrea starts from the drinks company C&C Group. In the meantime, Richard Snow is acting financial officer.
